Day 67
Earlier today I was trying to remember what year In-N-Out Burger opened in Kaiser. At the time I wanted to go see what the fuss was about but the lines were 200 cars long. The company said it would be three or four months before you could go there like a normal fast-food restaurant. Journal, that was just this past Christmas. My mental note to go back when things cooled down is only coming due, like, now.
When I remembered about that, my first thought was, “Well, at least the line’s probably shorter now.” My second thought was, “Who am I kidding?” All the bored people in Salem (which is to say ‘all the people in Salem’) must be lining up at In-N-Out every night.
Who could blame them?
One of my neighbors was going door to door this afternoon announcing a block party. It’s this coming Saturday, an opportunity for us all to get out and meet each other. Burgers and hotdogs will be provided, and don’t worry, they’ll be doing social distancing and all that.
Said the man standing a nose away from my screen door not wearing a mask.
The people putting it on seem really nice. They’re earnestly trying to do a a beautiful thing for the community, and, truly, I wish I knew my neighbors better. If I did, I’d have a much better idea whose name and address to give when I call the cops on the block party.
